The history of the earliest Christianity has only been made the object of a coherent account a few times. One will often find descriptions of the New Testament period, that is, the political, cultural, social and religious conditions that prevailed when Christianity arose among the Jews and spread to the Greco-Roman world. There are also numerous accounts of the ancient history of Judaism and of Greek and Roman history. But there are surprisingly few accounts of the history of the earliest Christianity itself in the course of its time. And yet, Christianity has been of historical dimensions from the very beginning.
